UNIQUENESS ON ZERO PRESSURE GAS DYNAMICS
    Huang-Fei-Min, WANG Zhen
    Acta mathematica scientia,Series B. 2001, 21 (2):  145-151.
    Abstract ( 1187 )   RICH HTML   PDF (112KB) ( 1166 )   Save

In this paper, by introducing a new idea, we prove the uniqueness of weak solution of pressureless gases with the large initial data. In particular, our uniqueness theorem is obtained in the same functional space as the existence theorem.

A RELATIVE BENEFIT ALGORITHM FOR BASIC ECONOMIC LOT SIZE PROBLEM
    MA Hui-Min, ZHANG Zi-Gang, ZHOU Shao-Fu, HUANG Wei-Lai
    Acta mathematica scientia,Series B. 2001, 21 (2):  159-165.
    Abstract ( 606 )   RICH HTML   PDF (107KB) ( 1214 )   Save

The paper develops an algorithm that solves economic lot size problem in O(n2) time in the Wagner-Whitin case. The algorithm is based on the standard dynamic programming approach which requires the computation of the maximal relative benefit for some possible subplans of the production plan. In this algorithm the authors have studied the forward property and decomposition properties which can make computation easy.
The proposed algorithm appears to perform quite reasonably for practical application.

The spectral distribution bμ(t) =P1!=1 exp(−itE12! ), where {E!}1!=1 are the eigenvalues of the negative Laplacian − = −P2=1( @ @x )2 in the (x1, x2)-plane, is studiedfor a variety of domains, where −1 < t < 1 and i = p−1. The dependence of bμ(t)on the connectivity of a domain and the boundary conditions are analyzed. Particular attention is given to a general bounded domain  in R2 with a smooth boundary @ , where a finite number of piecewise smooth Dirichlet, Neumann and Robin boundary conditions on the piecewise smooth parts ??j (j = 1, · · · , n) of @ are considered such that @ = [nj=1??j .Some geometrical properties of  (e.g., the area of , the total lengths of the boundary, the curvature of its boundary, etc.) are determined, from the asymptotic expansions of bμ(t) for |t| ! 0.

    We study the existence of positive solutions to the boundary value problem (p(t)u′)′ + f(t, u) + e(t, u) = 0, r < t < R, au(r) − bp(r)u′(r) = 0, cu(R) + dp(R)u′(R) = 0,where f and e : [r,R] × [0,1) ! R are two continuous functions satisfying f 0 and |e| M for some M > 0. We show that there exists at least one positive solution in the following two cases: (i) f is superlinear at infinity and > 0 is small enough; (ii) f is sublinear at infinity and > 0 is large enough. Our proofs are based on fixed point theorems in a cones.

    In this paper, we consider the quasilinear elliptic equation(− △p u = |u|m−1u + |u|q−1u, x ∈ ,u ∈ W 1,p0 (),(1) Where −△pu = −div(|▽u|p−2▽u), and 0 < m < p−1 < q < +∞,  is a bounded domain in RN(N ≥ 3). is a positive number. Our object is to estimate exactly the magnitute of
     such that (1) has at least one positive solution if ∈ (0, ) and no positive solutions if > . Furthermore, (1) has at least one positive solution when = , and at least two positive solutions when ∈ (0, ) and q ≤ Np N−p −1. Finally, we obtain a multiplicity result with positive energy of (1) when 0 < m < p − 1 < q = Np N−p − 1.

ON TESTING THE EQUALITY OF K MULTIPLE AND PARTIAL CORRELATION COEFFICIENTS
    A. K. Gupta, D. G. Kabe
    Acta mathematica scientia,Series B. 2001, 21 (2):  221-223.
    Abstract ( 654 )   RICH HTML   PDF (79KB) ( 1523 )   Save

Coutsourides (1980) derives an ad hoc nuisance parameter removal test for testing the equality of two multiple correlation coefficients of two independent p variate normal populations, under the assumption that a sample of size n is available from each population. He also extends his ad hoc nuisance parameter removal test to the testing of the equality of two multiple correlation matrices. This paper presents likelihood ratio tests
for testing the equality of k multiple correlation coefficients, and also k partial correlation coefficients.

A series of classical results on iid real valued r.v.′s are extended. As application author gives the analogous results for randomly indexed sums.

    ON THE RANDOM-ORIENTED PERCOLATION
    WU Xian-Yuan
    Acta mathematica scientia,Series B. 2001, 21 (2):  265-274.
    Abstract ( 713 )   RICH HTML   PDF (147KB) ( 1211 )   Save

Let Ld=(Zd,Ed) be the d-dimensional lattice, suppose that each edge of Ld be oriented in a random direction, i.e., each edge being independently oriented positive direction along the coordinate axises with probability p and negative direction otherwise. Let Pp be the percolation measure, (p) be the probability that there exists an infinite oriented path from the origin. In this paper, we first prove (p) (p) for d  da12 p 1, where (p) is the percolation probability of bond model; then, as corollaries,we get ( 12 ) = 0 for d = 2 and dc( 12 ) = 2, where dc( 12 ) = sup{d : ( 12 ) = 0}. Next, basedon BK Inequality for arbitrary events in percolation (see[2]), two inequalities are proved, which can be used as FKG Inequality in many cases (note that FKG Inequality is absentfor Random-Oriented model). Finally, we prove the uniqueness of infinite cluster and a theorem on geometry of the infinite cluster (similar to theorem (6.127) in [1] for bond percolation).

AN ASYMPTOTIC SOLUTION OF THE NONLINEAR REDUCED WAVE EQUATION
    Kin-Chung Ng
    Acta mathematica scientia,Series B. 2001, 21 (2):  275-281.
    Abstract ( 608 )   RICH HTML   PDF (98KB) ( 896 )   Save

This paper uses the boundary layer theory to obtain an asymptotic solution of the nonlinear educed wave equation. This solution is valid in the secular region where the geometrical optics result fails. However it agrees with the geometrical optics result when the field is away from the secular region. By using this solution the self-focusing length can also be obtained.
